LATTE attended an intimate breakfast with American Express at Hacienda Sydney at the Pullman Quay Grand Sydney Harbour hotel on Tuesday 6 September 2016.
Attendees were picked up from their homes or offices in a 1984 Austin English Taxi Cab for the event.
While guests sipped on espressos and enjoyed a contemporary breakfast menu at the newly opened vista bar, Autstin Huntsdale, Vice President of Consumer Products for American Express, introduced its latest product offering, the Explorer Credit Card.
The American Express Explorer Credit Card is designed to help get Australians to their next holiday destination faster, adding a host of travel rewards features to its already renowned service.
According to insights from American Express (AMEX), around 9.7 million Australians, just over 40 per cent of our population, headed overseas last year for short-term trips.
With just over four months until Christmas, AMEX revealed that white Christmas holidays are trending for Australians, with Aspen, Whistler and seeing the Northern Lights in Yellowknife at the top of our destination lists.
Members will receive an introductory offer of 100,000 Membership Reward Points, enough to fly to Hong Kong, Singapore, Los Angeles or San Francisco.
In a first for AMEX, the credit card comes with an AU$400 travel credit, as well as travel and car insurance, and smartphone screen insurance when you use the card to pay for your phone or contract.
Illustrating the need for a travel rewards-specific credit card, Huntsdale said, “The majority of our card members use their membership rewards points for travel.”
Membership points can be converted to members choice of eight airline partner programmes and a selection of hotel loyalty programmes.
“Of those who book their trip at American Express Travel Online, 66 per cent converted their points to air travel and 32 per cent to hotels,” he added.
LATTE and other guests in attendance left with a complimentary access card to the American Express lounge at the international airport, an Oroton passport wallet, a Glasshouse candle and Aesop travel-size product set.
