PONANT is set to launch a new polar odyssey multi-day off-ship adventure for guests sailing to the Arctic aboard Le Commandant Charcot.

PONANT’s Le Commandant Charcot, the world’s only luxury icebreaker, has completed another feat of navigation by becoming the first French cruise ship to cross the McClure Strait on 27 September 2022. An eastern arm of the Beaufort Sea on the edge of the Canadian Northwest Territories, the Strait is renowned for difficult ice conditions similar to those of the Northwest Passage.

PONANT has this afternoon confirmed the appointment of former APT Travel Group boss Chris Hall as the ultra-luxury expedition cruise operators CEO, Asia Pacific and Special Advisor, commencing in the role full-time from 1 February 2023.

The ceremony was attended by Anne Manipoud-Charcot, the great grand-daughter of the explorer the vessel is named after, and Hervé Gastinel, PONANT CEO and Captains Etienne Garcia and Patrick Marchesseau.
