Viking marked the company’s 25th anniversary on 30 September with a historic celebration in Amsterdam.

Viking has taken delivery of the company’s second purpose-built expedition ship, Viking Polaris. The delivery ceremony took at Fincantieri’s VARD shipyard in Søviknes, Norway, where Viking’s first expedition ship, Viking Octantis, was delivered in December 2021.

Viking has shored up four new ocean ships for its fleet with the Fincantieri shipyard. The new vessels will be ‘next generation’ ships and designed with hydrogen fuel cells that Fincantieri says will “set a new standard for the industry”.

Viking marked its 25th anniversary last Friday, with Chairman Torstein Hagen saying the company has become a “global brand,” while hinting more was yet to come.

Viking has unveiled several new ocean voyages and new 2024 departure dates on some of its most popular itineraries.

A group of eight travel advisors has just returned from sailing Viking’s popular 8-day Rhine Getaway river cruise from Amsterdam to Basel. The group were among the first Australian advisors to sail with Viking since 2019 and for many, this was their first overseas trip in as many years.

Viking continues to mark new milestones for its expedition voyages, as the new purpose-built Viking Octantis kicks off its inaugural season in the Great Lakes. Designed specifically to reach the Great Lakes region, Viking Octantis recently completed a roundtrip through the Welland Canal – a key section of the St. Lawrence Seaway connecting Lake Ontario and Lake Erie – making it the largest passenger vessel ever to transit the canal.

Viking has confirmed dates for the first round of its 2022 information sessions in Sydney on 22 June and Brisbane on 7 July 2022.
